Drilling supervisors, junior drilling engineers, rig and office based engineers, drilling personnel from driller to rig manager, managers, technical support personnel and entry level drilling staff.

You Will Learn

  • How the drilling process fits into the wider well operations
  • Basic well planning and design from spud to running production casing
  • The importance of offset data and how to interpret it
  • How to compile a time depth curve and generate a target time
  • How to compile a full well cost AFE
  • The relationship between pore pressure, mud weight and fracture pressure
  • Basic casing design and the importance of proper casing selection
  • How and why the client makes specific decisions with respect to factors such as
    • Rig selection, well scheduling, well type
    • Drilling Fluid and cement selection
    • Bit selection and BHA design
    • Directional drilling, MWD/LWD selection
    • New technology and how it will develop over the next few years, including Multilateral wells and horizontal drilling and Rotary Steerable systems
  • Expandable liners
  • Current best practices from across the industry
  • How to identify hole problems, unscheduled events and how to mitigate them
  • How to compile a basic drilling programme
  • How to deliver a basic peer review to cover the planned well design

      About the Course

This course will give delegates an understanding of the well planning process and the technology required to design and deliver a safe, efficient well. It is a "hands-on" course and will intersperse lecture, discussion and teamwork to complete a project deliverable, learn best practices to improve overall drilling performance, reduce downtime, NPT and avoid unplanned events.
